Pokemon product guide - which one to buy

Post by teamrocketadmin »

This post covers which products are good picks. Not all Pokemon products are created equal, and for seasoned investors the issue of space will become very prominent as you acquire more product along the way.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Get educated on how these products look when they are sealed and how much they weigh. Don't get scammed by not checking on the product seal or shrink wrap. If you are buying online from a small or new seller to you then it might be a good idea to ask for better pictures of the box, especially for high priced items. Some shrink wraps do come loose with some product but generally they are tight.

PRO TIP:
Print out the invoice for your sealed cases and maybe take a picture of the product label on the box as these can fade and you'll end up with a box that you have no idea what's inside.

1. Booster Cases - box of 6 booster boxes

There is a premium for sealed booster cases. The price of a sealed booster case could be the top market price for the booster box x 6. Sealed cases are the best picks if investing in sealed Pokemon product. The case box is a good way to protect the box and unless you move these cases a lot, there is really no need for any additional protection. A lot of investors like a sealed case because the chance of pulling a good hit from 6 unpicked boxes is higher than loose 6 booster boxes.

2. Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box Case - box of 4 Elite Trainer Boxes
With the introduction of the new "Pokemon Center" stamped promos, the Pokemon Center exclusive Elite Trainer boxes have been a hit with collectors and investors. A sealed case has commanded a premium because of the smaller print run of these boxes and buying a sealed case of 4 is certainly the better choice. The Pokemon center as of the writing of this post always ships a set of 4 in a sealed case.

3. Booster Bundles Case - box of 10 Bundles

Booster bundles are a new product line that Pokemon recently introduced which was a way for buying multiple sealed packs without the extra bells and whistles. The typical purchase below a booster box were elite trainer boxes but those come with a lot of extras that end up being in the trash. They did update the box to bigger which ultimately defeated the purpose of having a smaller item that simply featured a bundle of packs.

4. Elite Trainer Box Case - box of 10 Elite Trainer Boxes
Elite Trainers boxes are the second choice for sealed Pokemon investing. Pokemon recently updated the product to feature 9 packs with a feature promo card. Unfortunately, opening these for packs has been a huge waste as the dice, booklet, dividers typically has nowhere to go but the trash when opening multiple ETBs. The case of 10 ETBs as of today now carry a little bit of a premium similar to how a sealed case of booster box does. The premium is not that much but can push the 10 ETB price at peak market prices for a sealed case.

5. Booster Box - box of 36 packs

A sealed booster box is the go-to product for Pokemon investing. It's small, compact and contains no added products like dice, booklets, etc that clutter up the box and make it bulky. The 36 packs also gives you the highest chance from a single sale product to get you hits. Booster boxes are also shrink wrapped with a wrap that has pokeball logo which is not present in Elite Trainer Boxes.

6. Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box - Pokemon Center stamped promos

The Pokemon Center Elite Trainer Box is the second most popular item to buy and invest in. The stamped promos carry a good premium over the regular non-stamped ones. Some promos is worth as much as the price of the regular ETB. Just with all ETBs, they do take up too much space so be very mindful of your storage space.

7. Elite Trainer Box - Pokemon Center stamped promos

Elite Trainers boxes are the second choice for sealed Pokemon investing. Hands down your second choice if booster boxes are too pricey for you . The updated ETB designs make great display pieces for any collector. The addition of promo card and the increase pack count to 9 makes it an affordable investable product.

8. Ultra Premium Collection - Exclusive Promos

Ultra premium collections are a good pick but unfortunately, the promo and packs included in the UPC can make it a 50/50 pick. The packs include in the set vary from the same current block which could contain both good and undersireable packs. Some UPCs are great picks because of the promos alone. Some are 100% amazing because of the card packs included and the promos. Some truly suck because the the promo has little interest from the fans and the packs included are a bit of a meh! The UPCs that do feature a metal card have shown to have solid interest from collectors and Investors. The Arceus UPC which was exclusive to gamestop was a hated product on release and has appreciated to almost $200 in 2025.

9. Booster Bundles - 6 packs with no extra stuff!

Pokemon company introduced these bundles as an alternative to ETBS. They gained popularity with Pokeinvestors as they take up a smaller space than ETBs. These are great options for more popular sets but lack the demand as a display piece because of the box design. Booster bundles contain 6 packs and does not include any of the items included in the ETBs.

10. Ancillary Products - Collection Boxes, Figure Collections.
The bulky figure collections, collection boxes, etc, are probably your last choice when it comes to investing in Pokemon. The problem with these is there is no consistent on the packaging and they can and will be bulky if you're keeping a lot. Space is a premium in this investing space and people who've been around know to well how this will be a problem sooner or later. Some of the promo in these products can carry a premium but with typical investors keeping more than 1 or 10, these products are the last picks even if the promos are good.

Good sets do have ancillary products in high demand. Binder collections and collection boxes that feature good packs will command a premium but again ultimately it's a matter of how much space you've go!
